Just getting into Rage. I like how it falls somewhere between Fallout and Borderlands on one side, and Halo and Bioshock on the other.
Suffer with me, will you?

Yeah, kind of the problem I had when I tried out Rage is that it was just so much 'like' so many other games, I had little interest in playing more. Borrowing ideas isn't a bad thing but I didn't feel it offered anything really fresh for me to sink my teeth into.

It's a very combat-oriented Fallout with Borderlands-type visuals. For $20 I don't think it's a terrible thing, but yeah, if you don't like shooting enemies in the face for every single quest, it can get old fast.
Although, I liked the added touch of being launched from my 4-wheeler the first time I accidentally drove into a rock. I made a quick game out of how much hang time I could get.

Alternating between Dust: An Elysian Tale, Sleeping Dogs and Theatryhtm all of which are fucking awesome. Darksiders II and The Last Story are on my shelf to be played next, but I can see Sleeping Dogs taking a lot of my time.

After spending this week with my nose buried in the first Gears of War novel, I craved to play Gears 1 again. Never paid much attention to the story 1st time round, got into it more the second, now that i've played all the gears games and got way into the fiction (yes, I play gears for the story as much as the gameplay) I decided to refresh myself on the first game. I'm already getting tons of references to characters and events from the book that anyone who's not read it wouldn't notice.
Also i'm playing it on Insane. Beat 2&3 on Insane, thought it was time I did 1. Plus my skill aquired from years of Gears has improved my chances greatly. Act one wasn't too hard. Though I forgot how much the hammerburst sucked in the original. the moment you get your first lancer couldn't have come soon enough.

I just spent my weekend putting a good majority of my time into doing a vanguard playthrough of Mass Effect 2. It's not nearly as easy as playing as an Infiltrator, but it's really satisfying reaving someone, charging them and then blasting them with a M-300 Claymore, or lifting guys and then charging them to oblivion. I'm hoping the fun continues in ME3 as a Vanguard.

Yeah, now it's super easy, FUCK YOU VERY MUCH! Granted, I'm playing on veteran mode too, and it's a drastically different play-style than Infiltrator. Just figured out how fun Pull/charge is. Plus Reave to take out armor and barrier.

I went back to Skyrim for Dawnguard. It's pretty disappointing for a $20 DLC,nothing near as good as Shivering Isles was. There's really no reason to get it if you aren't planning to play as a werewolf or vampire lord since the new perk trees for them are the only meaningful content. Both sides get the same core quests and end at the same event with no reward for actually completing the quest for either side. I've modded the hell out of my copy and finally have a set-up that makes my werewolf fun to play,I just wish there was a working mod to re-equip your gear after turning back.

I discovered yesterday that not only was Final Fantasy Legends 2 remade for the DS,but also has an unofficial translation patch so I put a good 8 or so consecutive hours into it in a single sitting. I'm amazed at how well my memory of the gameboy original has held up and continues to serve in the remake. I can't figure out for the life of me why Square Enix didn't release this state-side,this is a completely solid upgrade of the original with new mechanics and features and a faithfully updated soundtrack. The only big complaint I have about it is that the combat balance is shit, enemies are either one-shot wonders who deal 0 damage,or show up in groups of a dozen or more and can kill any given party member in two hits. I hit my first defeat 7 hours in after being attacked by 16 apparitions who all went before my party and could two-shot any party member aside from my mecha. I'm thinking something about magic defense isn't lining up for me. I'm also having trouble understanding how some weapons work. Most weapons have a simple calculation for power like STR x 8 but some display values like Absorb x 6 or Magic x 5 and my party doesn't have any "Absorb" or "Magic" stat so I have no clue what fuels those. Martial arts apparently have their own unique calculations based on number of uses and their damage values call for a "Tech" stat that I also don't have. The stat increase system also kinda blows to since it's very FF3 in the way that you have to grind consecutive actions in order to qualify for stat boosts. It still seems like a solidly fun game though and deserved to be released given that abominations like Final Fantasy Fables and Theatrhythm saw the light of day.
