Well, it looks like my new adventure starts today. Just thought I'd throw up a post on the boards so I can post my misadventures and hopefully pics when I get the chance.

UPDATE!:

Right now I'm waiting at another base for my flight to go out. Ended up sleeping all day and I won't find out when I leave until the last minute when I leave, due to security reasons. So next time I'll be updating it'll be at my actual base. Hopefully the internet access will be just a little bit better, as my Laptop is trying to get OS updates over a slow connection.

Man, if only there was a base in Buffalo or I'd totally buy that lot in an instant.

At my base now. Personal internet really sucks here, as it's really slow, plus I'm paying $60 a month for it. Not very fun at all. So my updates unfortunately are going to be few and far between, but I'll do the best I can with what I got. Oh, and now that I'm in Iraq, I really do feel like I'm in the suck. Still better than being totally forward deployed, as I'd rather be here than Afghanistan. I have a small dorm room for 4 people, my work hours are very long, and not seeing a day off until my first month is done probably. Also, I don't know where a lot of things are yet, as everything looks exactly the same here. Also, having problems sleeping here, which isn't helping.

Hopefully I'll get into a groove here soon...

I feel that my tax dollars are being grossly misused if you have to pay for your own internet on base. Means of easy communication with home is something we ought to be providing to you guys.

Wood, what's your cell phone like? Some newer phones can download a program that, when plugged into laptops, can supply bandwith for internet use. AKA your cellphone signal powers your laptop wifi.

I'm on an iPhone, however I'm not paying for the wireless anymore due to me being in another country. So that's not an avenue I want to take. Also, apple/AT&T is dumb and won't allow this phone to teather with a laptop. Granted it might once I'm out of here, but that'll be way too late for me.

Good news is I'm just starting to get into a rythem here, but I'm sick with the crud at the moment. It friggen blows right now! But I'm finally doing weght training here. Ther is no zombie virus here to speed my tank transformation here, so I have to do it the old fashioned way. Yeah, y'all have 6 months to place gas cans and horde molitovs, cause imma commin!

Oh, and I'll post my address as soon as I write it down!

If you jailbreak your iPhone you can do this with iPhone Modem. I have used it for almost a year quite sucessfully.

You could always plug your laptop into the RED land line...

...but that would land you in Levenworth.
