Kickstarters

Postby Wood on Tue Apr 10, 2012 9:12 pm

So since I funded my first kickstarter (which was Off Campus, of course), and Double Fine getting a ton of money for an adventure game, there seems to be a ton of indie projects, or projects that have no other way of getting support from a publisher without proving that there's a market for whatever widget they're pushing. Quite a few of them have shown up on these boards. So I thought I'd start up a thread to start consolidating some of the projects we're either following, backing, or trying to get others to back. I'll go ahead and start.

I'm backing this iOS game called Republique. It's a damn ambitious project to bring AAA titles over to the iOS platform. Here's the premise. You get a call by a girl named Hope. She's on the lamb from the government, and she's asking for your help to hack various systems to keep her safe. This project isn't solely being funded by backers, as Logan is paying the other half of the bill to get the game made. Who knows, if they raise enough, it can make it to Android as well.

Farsight Studios, the company behind Pinball Hall of Fame and Pinball Arcade, is running a Kickstarter to try to raise money to license "The Twilight Zone" aka, the best pinball machine ever. Plus if they go dramatically over their goal, the next step will be licensing Star Trek The Next Generation. As of this writing they have under 30k to go with 27 days left so it looks good but I encourage everyone to keep an eye on it and chip in if they need it.

I've seen a few projects, but I haven't thrown in on anything else lately. I've actually been tempted to start my own for the second novel.

I'd love to see Sidequest turned into an RPG proper. But I can only give so much yo that project.

Ah-ha!

Chad, I moved your thread out of the classifieds since it is an X-strike related project. Hopefully more people will notice it here.

So anyway, The Twilight Zone Kickstarter is 80% of the way there and they were able to add the option of getting the Xbox 360 version of the table.

Alright, donated to the kickstarter. Though I think the last video pinball game I really got into was Space Cadet.

If I make enough money this month, and I might, you can be sure I'll donate.

Heh, now they're officially throwing in TNG rewards if they get double their money. I don't think they will but man, would that be nice. If they get close towards the end I'll up my donation but we'll see.

I did see Maffew at MAGFest. Unfortunately I only got to talk to him briefly on Thursday and then didn't really run into him again.

This is what I'm in on:

Double Fine Adventure
Wasteland 2
Pinball Arcade: The Twilight Zone
Pinball Arcade: Star Trek the Next Generation
Mercenary Kings
Brand New Mindless Self Indulgence Record

I'm basically in on the lowest level for all of them but MSI. I think both of the Pinball Arcade tables are now out on iOS but have yet to make their way to any other console. Hoping I'll be seeing most if not all of the rewards for those this year.
