yeah. most people seem to want to stick to the chunky ds. jsut posting this in case there were any folk who wanted the ds lite, but didn't have the cash. this would definatly help.

in a time where trade ins mean you get practically nothing, this is amazing to get that much $$.

on the official site, they had white, teal and dark blue. europe is getting black. not sure when we are getting more colors, or which ones. i wants black.

Just pre-ordered mine today $70 for the DS and traded in MPH for $12ish. So, why is Gamestop only doing this ($70 for the DS, Xbox, etc) and EB isn't? I mean, they are the same company now.

and yeah, ds's are region free. that's how the guy at eb got one months ago. they give you the option when you turn it on for english or japanese. and then you're set.

meh...i'm gonna skip out on the lite solely for the fact that i'm sick of nintendo pulling this utter bullshit on us all the time. they obviously plan it at this point since they do it so often, and it was only a single year since its japanese release that it was released there. a year. how long does it take to design, create, and manufacture stuff like this? it was most likely planned. and nintendo will always get away with it because the fans are going to buy it no matter what.

now as for the ds lite, i got to try my nintendo rep's model about a week ago. the problem here is that the plastic on the inside of the unit, and on the shoulder buttons, is more like a matte plastic, and not covered by the glossy plastic. my rep barely had hers for a full week, and the buttons on the inside were turning greyish brown, as well as the shoulder buttons. white is a truly evil color. if you desperately need a ds lite, i'd say wait for the colors. they will eventually release the other colors of the unit around this holiday season.

my thing on the dslite, is that the main focus of it is that it has a brighter screen. so fuckin what. i see everything perfectly fine on my current ds screen. hell, all of you can and you know it. just because it can get brighter, does not mean it justifies a 130 dollar purchase. that's not pocket change for those of you not living with mommy and daddy. to me, it's just not a major upgrade whatsoever, and not worth shelling out the money to buy one all over again. it's shinier, it's brighter....it's...not enough to suck money out of me. i'm not that easy.

Well, its a higher resolution screen too, so by default games will look better on it. I'm not really worried about discoloration either, its never been a factor in my purchasing decisions. Then again, I'm anal with how I take care of things though, hence my perfect working Atari 2600 and Neo Geo CD.

I don't plan on buying another DS after this one, the design is perfect in my opinion (especially since a Nintendo rep in Japan hinted at releasing a new redesign of the DS 1-2 years from now I remember reading on IGN or Joystiq when the Lite came out over there).

There's no doubt about it that Nintendo has been total scumbags with marketing their portables, which is why I waited to get DS. I knew a better version was planned from the start because thats what they did for the original gameboy and the advance. I can't see them doing anything more for the DS, unless they make it smaller a la Gameboy Micro. But even doing that wouldn't encourage the vast majority of gamers to buy it again. Simply making it smaller is chump marketing, and the people who buy it are chumps. But nevertheless, the Japanese know that stupid Americans will always buy things like that. Just look at Sony, the company that always re-releases their products with the exact same functionality only smaller. If they are guaranteed profit, they will make it.
