Earthbound collection?

Earthbound collection?

Postby FPStanley on Wed Jul 19, 2006 12:09 am

So reading the newest issue of EGM I came upon an interesting paragraph in the rumor mill section that said a Earthbound compilation might be in production (whether it will be a japan exclusive was not mentioned) Now granted this is only a rumor, but I think it might have some legit backing. All the GBA 2 packs have sold well and more are on the way, so why not do a comp for the DS with Earthbound?

I REALLY want to play Mother 3. And I'm an obsessive Earthbound fanatic. But nevertheless, I'm convinced that the American video game bigwigs have some sort of personal grudge with Shigesato Itoi. Either that or they think it won't sell, which is a retarded notion considering how much complete versions of Earthbound are going for on ebay right now. ($250-300 last I checked)

Can't say I ever played this series.
I would so be down for a compilation though, I hear its phenomenal.

I think the Game Craze by my house has Earthbound in the giant box that comes with the Strategy Guide for like $160.00.
Too expensive just to see if I like the series.
do i listen to pop music because i am miserable, or am i miserable because i listen to pop music...

I've heard that rumor over 2 years ago. I'm not holding my breath.

What more of a compilation would you have than Mother 1 and 2 which already exists on Game Boy? Would they just throw 3 into it even though it only came out a few months ago?
I'm out like the gout.

Putting 1 and 2 on an english cart and bringing over 3 (even though it could logically fit on the same as the others...won't happen), would be very nice.

Well on the web I dont like to do this much because I actually take joy in having ownership of the actual game but if I see a game I am unsure of I download the rom and the emulator and I delete it after I play it a couple hours and if I like it I buy the game and if not then I dont. Mother 2 (aka Earthbound for the Super Nintendo) was a interesting game. It was definately wacky for an rpg. I actually had the game at one point in my childhood and my mother bought it for me for I think $49.99 or something like that. I ended up selling it on Ebay for over 100 bucks with the box, strategy guide and everything. The scratch and sniff stickers included in the strategy guide were gross from what I remembered and there was a contest for it. For $160.00 dollars personally though I would pass it up for a couple reasons. The scratch and sniff stuff is gross, you can find a strategy guide for Earthbound on the Gamefaqs website and you dont need a box for it. I mean the box was kind of a waste of space being that big. The game is what you really want. If you just want the game and you dont care if its new or used I think you can get a used copy on Ebay for 30-40 bucks shipped if you shop wisely. Amazon has copies of the game too used. But this is all just my opinion.

If worse comes to worse, you may just be able to play the Japanese version of Mother 3 on your GBA if these guys pull through with their translation project:

Any chance you know how much a GBA cartirdge writer costs or even where to buy one? I use to be big on the homebrew scene a few years back, but I'm so out of touch I wouldn't know where to begin. None of the import sites I frequent carry the cartidge writers anymore.

Wow this guy is a very good translator from the pictures I have seen. Hopefully us fans would appreciate playing the game. I just hope that guy doesnt get into a lawsuit with Nintendo. Maybe Nintendo will pick up notice of this and decide to release Mother 3 over here. That would seriously kick butt.

I haven't the foggiest, but I know that the aforementioned website has some sort of documentation on cartridge writing and all that jazz.

This rumor was also reported on the rumor page of the new EGM which is roughly as close to confirmation as you can get.

even if we don't get it...at least contact is coming out soon. if i recall correctly, wasn't contact developed half by the team of killer7, and half by the earthbound/mother team?? i mean, could you make a more perfect weirdo teamup for a weirdass game?

You are correct sir. I have a feeling Contact is going to be the game that makes me *really* proud of buying a DS.
