Well, nearly after a year after the game has come out I decided to give it a go. Those who know me know I'm really bad at games and am into hand-holdy feel-good romps. But I have to say that Dark Souls is amazing. In a world where third-person action means jamming on buttons to do insane combos, it's so refreshing to have meaningful combat with consequences. It took me almost ten hours just to get through the Undead Parish but I feel like I'm much better equipped to play the game now. It's also highly exciting to go through an area a few times, power yourself up, reverse hallow, get some bros, and just wipe out a boss. Yes, I didn't do it on my own, but I feel like I earned the victory through hard work. What a brilliant game.

Welcome to the club!

There is no such thing as shame in Dark Souls. I took advantage of every edge they let me have be it summoning other players, over-powered weapons, or exploits in enemy AI. Any advantage you can get is worth taking

So I have put about 4 hours into the PC version and I am....not too happy. The game is locked at 30 fps and the resolution isn't great (even when running at 1920). There have been many attempts at fixing these, but they are a pain in the ass, only work offline and can fuck up your game. I am running DSFix which at least makes it playable, but this is definitely a shoddy port.

That's shitty. I was considering getting it when it went on sale but if it's a bad port then eff it.

I think I read that the DLC pack for the console versions comes out towards the end of October

Yeah, I will be buying it for sure. The new content doesn't open up until near the end of the game and I don't feel like playing through the entire port just to get to it.

I agree it's a bad PC port. However, its still very playable. on my m11x Laptop. So I have a portable means to play Dark Souls, which isn't bad! Though I had such a huge break from Dark Souls that I can't tell if the lag is from the shoddy port or if it was like that in the console versions.

I decided to start with a deprived, and made him a faith based character. It works a lot better than expected with the new patches, as they dropped the "SunBro" covenant requirement from 50 Faith to 25 Faith, without having to turn in Sunlight Medals, which would normally drop the requirement more. The benefit? My dude throws lighting bolts. No joke.

It is the port. I had the same problem then I started up the PS3 version again and no issues.

The only time I had an performance issues in PS3 Dark Souls was in Blighttown and I didn't even have that nearly as bad as some people did.

I actually still haven't done a run through this game post-patch. I'll definitely be starting a new character after the DLC is out though.

Well you might want to start now. The DLC is at end-game (after the lord vessel) so you should probably get up there before it comes out.

Well, I still have a month (exactly one month in fact) so I'll probably wait at least a couple weeks before I kick it off again. Maybe my little Columbus Day gift to myself will be locking myself indoors and getting sucked into Dark Souls all over again.

I had thought about starting over, but after two times through my dude is so decked out that I am enjoying blowing through NG+2 8)

Also - enough time has passed and I have put enough hours into it (100+) that I can definitely say this is one of my top 5 favorite games of all time.
