been watching my housemate play i through, an episode at a time when we get chance, really enjoying it. As an observer it's real good! Enjoying the story, and not having to worry so much about the 'clunky' combat is nice. I get to keep my eye out for yellow paint and shineys instead. Which is fine by me. Episode 4 tonight :)

I don't know what your mates are saying, but I never felt like combat was clunky in this. In fact, I often felt it was pretty smooth. The dodging takes some precision to use effectively, but the shooting is very forgiving and gives you a lot of leeway. The game is worth the first person experience, but I'm glad you're getting something out of it either or.

well mark never knocked the combat, just as a third party observer it looks a little awkward at times esp with the camera going wierd occasionally. It prob feels better when your actually playing it. I'm happy to just watch though, it's still a lot of fun :)

As I would recommend this game at full price, that is one heckuva deal sir. I hope you enjoy it.

Possible The Signal Spoilers
So yeah, I'm fully convinced that The Signal is thus far the greatest chapter in all of Alan Wake. The surreal ever changing menace that is Bright Falls creates a feeling like you're stuck in an absolute nightmare. The way they take the familiar areas of Alan Wake and put them into an even more disturbing dreamlike state is done incredibly well all throughout. More importantly, the ability to turn words into objects is game changing in ways barely even hinted at in Wake's original finale chapter. Every step of the way the game is showing you a whole new way this single mechanic can alter the gameplay. The mileage they get out of it in one episode is brilliant. I don't even need to expand upon how excellent the pacing is, how it has some of the best set pieces in the game, or that the atmosphere has never been better. You just have to go play it right now, and enjoy.

Only complaint? No new Night Springs. What a shame.

AH! AHHH! AHHHHH! THAT WAS REALLY GOOOOOD!

Loved the TV Boss. Hated that I have to wait for more story. I wonder how many cutouts I missed. Hearing an alarm clock but not being able to find it is infuriating.

The field of lamp-posts was freaking sweat, and very satisfying to play. This is one of the best pieces of DLC I've never had to pay for.

Free is a price that can't be beat but I don't think I would have felt cheated had I paid money for this. I like how they managed to create something that really stands out from what was in the retail game. The lamp post section was a definite highlight. Lots of achievements to go back for in such a relatively short bit of DLC. You can see your stats on what you've collected on the Statistics page in the pause menu.

I'm getting kind of worried as to how much more Alan Wake we're going to see. No rumors of Wake 2 or more DLC to come after The Writer. I feel like we should have heard something by now. Really though, I wouldn't be concerned except I'm so into this story that I would be crushed to see it go unfinished.

i finished the game last night. This was a excellent game from beginning to end. It had great pacing in both story and gameplay. it ended at a perfect time and did not drag on too long.

Spoilers.

If i remember correctly didn't Zane tell Wake that a Dopleganger was taking his place? I do agree that Alan sacraficed himself and stayed in the Dark to save Alice. Maybe thats why the Dopleganger took his place? if not, perhaps there could be a sequel about Alice Wake.

other things i noticed about the ending were that perhaps it is the Dopleganger is the one who was behind the new Lamp Lady. and The older police woman could have been the previous lamp lady. but i could be completely wrong about this whole Doplganger thing. The scene that showed him was very short and the explanation of it was vauge.

those Verizon commericals sucked. I turned on a tv expecting another Night Springs episode and instead was informed that Verizon has plans for everyone's needs.

Okay, I just saw the debut trailer for The Writer DLC, and I seriously regret doing it. While it doesn't exactly contain massive spoilers, it hints to too many things I would've wanted to experience first hand. Go figure. I say try your best to skip the trailer and hold out for the release. All you need to know is that it comes out October 12th, and it looks good. I can't wait.

Good timing! No big games coming out that week for me. I am bummed that this is already the last piece of DLC. Hope its a good one.

The Writer was released yesterday! I have it downloaded but I'm not going to dig in until I have alone time in the house Friday night.

I bought it on Tuesday but haven't started it. At the time, I was working on a Nightmare/collectibles playthrough and wanted to finish off the current Episode before starting The Writer.

On that note: One more thermos!

FInished The Writer. I think they did a good job continuing on the mechanics established in The Signal without it feeling too same-y. Loved the confusing, headache-inducing, ferris wheel maze. Loved the run up to the lighthouse at the end. Some really good character stuff for Wake there with the Hartman conversation and Alice tape. I'm not sure how long that scene goes on since i bungled through the EXIT door just after Alice's tape.

The stage is set for Alan Wake's "Return", I sure fucking hope we get to see it.
