A remastered ("all-new graphics and visual effects in widescreen format," says Sega) version is coming to XBLA this fall with online co-op and battle modes, and a few others.

This is exactly what I've wanted on XBLA for a few reasons. Obviously, I'd like to play the game for much cheaper than the Saturn price. It also might be the start of more Saturn games getting the treatment, which would be amazing (Radiant Silvergun got an announcement I remember, but I can't think of any others yet.) And, just a continuation of more beat-em-ups for my consumption. More beat-em-ups and fighters please. Let me punch shit! Cool decision, Treasure/Sega.

This is so awesome. I was actually just thinking about busting out my Saturn to play this the other day. I'm actually fortunate enough to have a copy that Dave's deal sniffing nose rooted out for me many years ago. It was hanging out on a spindle at one of the local Rochester game stores and it walked out the door for $6 I believe. Either way, Guardian Heroes is an absolute classic beat em up that I was never able to fully take advantage of. As a single player game its still fantastic but one of the big attractions is the versus mode which allows you to pick from any character in the game, including enemies, to take into a 6 player simultanous melee. This is what XBLA was made for.
