Weird shit to do with Ramen

Postby Link on Sat Dec 30, 2006 12:50 pm

Just going to throw this out there:

#1. I drink my ramen broth out of a cup, either that, or I just dump the packet into the noodles, and mix it all up. I never actually have 'soup'.

#2. Once, I ate a brick of ramen, there wasn't any clean pots available at the party I was at, so... I licked the block of ramen all over, and then poured the flavor packet on it... it wasn't that bad, but... really salty and starchy...

#3. Okay, these are the good recipes now... here's one:

step 1) Cook Ramen in water, don't add flavor packet yet.

step 2) Drain the water out, dump the noodles in a bowl, and then grab your flavor packet of choice (Oriental seems to work best).

step 3) Mix in the packet with the noodles, then get some cooler ranch doritos and crunch 'em up (Into thirds or 4ths), dumping them into the bowl.

It's pretty damn good.

#4. PB&Ramen:

step 1) Cook ramen, no packet.

step 2) Drain that shit and throw it into a mixing bowl.

step 3 ) get a big spoonful of Peanut Butter, maybe even 2 spoonfuls if you want, and throw it in with the ramen and mix it up.

step 4) Eat it or follow the bonus step instructions

Bonus Step) Put it on two pieces of bread and make a sandwich.

This is also really good, however, when you decide it'd be a cool idea to add in some Jelly... no, it's a bad idea, the jelly makes your ramen all slimey and gross like someone vomitted it up and it just tastes nasty.

I like the peanut butter idea, it's like low-budget Thai peanut noodly goodness. Wouldn't put it on a sandwich, though. I've tried that with spaghetti and the texture just does not work for me.

I've done full drainage on the water before, but nowadays I usually use just a little of it, around 3/4 to 1 cup's worth. I also like to do egg drop ramen, either by cracking an egg and scrambling a bit before drizzling it off the fork into the ramen, or just cracking it into a slotted spoon above the ramen.

Either way, you have to do it early enough so the broth hasn't cooled much and will cook the egg some, and it helps not to be afraid of salmonella. Also works with other sorts of noodles in broth, which I tend more towards since ramen is sodium city.

I'm really happy that I'm not the only one who has mixed peanuts with ramen. It makes me feel like much less of a freak.

My favorite ramen-stein creation was a ramen burrito. Sauted some veggies, added cheese, sour cream and salsa, then added the cooked noodles (oriental most likely) and wrapped them in a tortilla. Surprisingly good.

A bowl of ramen noodles with a flash boiled egg or two and some maple syrup is also an old fave...Dr Egg's Ramen Surprise as it's become known.

NAPA CABBAGE SALAD

1 head Napa cabbage, shredded
5 green onions, chopped

Combine and set aside.

2 pkg. Ramen noodles (do not use seasoning packages)
1 pkg. sliced almonds
1/2 c. butter (or shortening alternative - I use Earth Balance)

Break apart noodles (may need to use a hammer) lightly brown noodles and almonds in butter. Cool thoroughly.

DRESSING:

1 c. oil
2/3 c. sugar
2 tbsp. soy sauce
1/4 c. rice vinegar
1 Tbps. sesame seeds

Shake until sugar dissolved. When ready to serve toss together.

May use regular cabbage instead of Napa or combine regular with Napa.

I break mine up a bit sometimes when I'm just eating them standard, and slamming your elbow into them on a sturdy counter does wonders. It also makes you feel a little better about your day.

Not if it's still in the package. I usually pop the end just a little bit so the whole end doesn't explode if it's tightly sealed with a little air in.

Use a packet of oriental ramen spice when browning ground chicken, add a little water to help it disolved and achieve maximum surface area (or in tofu).

Put it in whatever you like. Perhaps a burrito or a salad.

I like to take my ramen noodles, and add really vegetable-heavy spaghetti sauce into the mix. Also adding straight teriyaki sauce and peas is fun. Um, for really weird I guess I also like to add cheese to Oriental, Beef and Pork flavors. I can't eat the chicken ever again because of that really lean time 3 months home from Basic when I couldn't get a job and my savings ran out. Chicken ramen is the DEBBIL!
