SIDEQUEST DOCUMENTARY LIVES

Postby Juese on Thu Apr 30, 2009 11:11 pm

Well I am thrilled as hell, because Sidequest Has Left The Party is up, free for all to see. This is the place for feedback, so feed it back! There's also a special Sidequest podcast coming (spoiler), so keep an eye out for that.

that was really cool. i think everybody who's ever gotten in to film making has a story like this to tell (myself included) but at least you got a kick ass documentary out of all of it. maybe someday you guys will have the resources to put together something of sidequest's scale (after watching resident horror i think it's only a matter of time).

can't wait for the next movie from x-strike. any ideas getting kicked around currently?

Yeah it sucks that we'll never get to see the film but as many will and have said, at least we got a fucking great well made documentary out of it which I really enjoyed watching :)

This is a great documentary guys. Any chance that there will be a single video file for it sometime later?

Also, every time I see Tim being interviewed, I keep looking at his massive game collection behind him.

A single file is pretty unlikely at this time, but I'd like to do it in the future. Thanks to everyone digging it. There is an audio goof at the end of episode 7 that I'll be fixing shortly today. Is anyone having any other video/audio problems?

The documentary was awesome. I enjoyed it a lot. Just out of curiosity, how much of the movie did you actually end up completing?

Oh, I see. Well, I can understand that because the project was a bit ambitious from the start it seems. Its a shame it was never completed. You guys make some awesome movies and an RPG/Final Fantasy homage from you guys would have been sweet. You guys take something and make it all your own, which is what makes your movies so great.

i loved the wizard character (tim fucking nailed that character) and the rest of the concept was great, just reign it in a bit lol. seriously, RPG genre would work great for a future project considering X-Strike's growing talent pool.

the doc was really well made too. you guys should start doing making-ofs for future movies. the outtake reels are cool but the extra bit of whit during the doc made it even better.

Episode 7 with fixed audio

I'm also working on changing the dimensions of the episodes to better fit the YouTube player.

I love it, it's just as much fun as seeing it at magfest. My only qualm is that the movie sections are so short, it'd be too much trouble to repost them, but if you guys post more documentaries maybe post them in 10 minute sections?

Also who do I have to bribe to get any footage of mahoney as my favorite ff character cid?

Too much to ask on the 10 minute thing, probably. We haven't found a way to really lock down time on a documentary yet. When we have a script we can estimate a page of dialogue for a minute of screen time, but there's so much footage with a doc that we just try and get it to work as a piece, time only factoring if it goes on too long. That's my way anyway.

And sadly, nothing was filmed with Mahoney. I really wanted to film with him in the cockpit of the airship as it crashed, recycling some lines from Aliens.

I personally never knew how hard it could be to make a film. Well, I did, but I was really quite suprised at how much had to go into this. It's not just getting a bunch of your friends around and saying you want to make a movie. It takes quite a lot of planning, and communication is a must.

Thanks, X-Strike, for pounding this into my head again. Great documentary about when times get tough when making a film.
