Xhibit Play - Resident Evil (GCN)

Postby Ekkebus on Wed Nov 10, 2010 11:53 pm

We're off and running with the first series of Xhibit Play. The game of choice is the Gamecube remake of Resident Evil and me and Rory are at the wheel. Let us know what you think of the videos and feel free to play along at home!

It begins! Rory is shaming his survival horror roots in this first installment and the banter is off to a great start. Considering how ridiculous Resident Evil actually is this is going to be a fun Let's Play. The volume levels between the commentary and game are soilid, the only thing that needs improvement is Rory getting a hang of tank walking. And he better step his game up or else the hunters and chimera will tear his ass apart.

Back before my brother sold my copy while I was at Basic Training, I found that using that tini-tiny D-pad was actually easier to use than the stick to move. I think Rory was trying to use the stick because I could hear the audible clicks of it. But yeah, RC Car walking takes a lot of time to get used to.

Ok, so the problems you are having with the controls are the exact same problem I have had with every game in the series until 5 (including 4). Those controls are the sole reason I do not like the series save for that one game in it

Anyway, very entertaining and i look forward to the rest of the playthrough. This game falls under my earlier mentioned list of games i would like to see, but have no desire to play.

Good: Everything except...

Bad: Rory's crappy tank-walking control. Firm that shit up, son!

Hey. HEY! That shit was FUNNY!

I switch over to the d-pad later on. Things get smoother. If I could play it on a playstation controller we wouldn't have these sorts of issues.

Ding! I'm a fan.

In other news, what is with the "premium content" message on the videos page? Shouldn't that page have the same player as the front page?

1. Are you guys really complaining about someone not being able to use tank controls? You know they're like, bad, right? Aw man, I get so angry when I watch someone play the Crane Game at a store and they don't pick anything up. I'm with Jakanden on this one, except I didn't have a problem controlling 4.

2. The premium content is something we were trying to do, and hasn't really been used. In other words, we'll probably be fading that out when we have time, which has actually come up lately. I can't remember my password to get in there right now, but I know it's got stuff like direct download versions of our past trailers and skits, press kit, perhaps the Mag doc. If there's any video you want, just ask me and I'll get it to you, how about that.

Just watched the first ep. I really liked it. Come on Rory, get those controls down. I never had a problem with tank controls and upon playing the remake myself a couple of years ago for the first time, reminded myself that i love tank controls and pre-rendered backgrounds. The Good times :D

1) Bad tank walking is really enduring to be honest, and I find it funny.
2) Oh, there's a video I want to get my hands on...but it cannot be named here. Other than that, I'd like a copy of "A Young Adult and his Blob".

i like it!
i think the bad tank walking was the best part. i'm watching this to laugh, not to see a speed run.
i should finish this game sometime.

No time like the present! I take over the controller for the second episode (which is now live), let me know how my tank walking is.

Good stuff actually. Though I totally forgot the art of the zombie dodge. I'll have to watch a short clip of a speed run and then try it out on the original director's cut. It's been over 5 years since I did a 2 hour run.

I obviously lost those skills as well. In fairness I haven't played the game since it came out but I used to be a lot better at avoiding zombie hugs.
