Was it suppossed to be some sort of like....clairvoyance in order to warn them of danger or something? Like to show some link to the monsters or something?

There was a small bit cut before they entered the woods where Lea has another quick hallucination where she sees a monster where Mark is standing but it was cut, I think because it wasn't shot properly to make sense in the context of the scene.

Bingo.

It was meant to just be another layer of set-up for eventual revelations about Mark's character. Lea was initially supposed to have several halluciantions throughout the first half of the film, but all but one were cut for various reasons. The only one that remained stayed in because it worked as a stand alone Eternal Darkness parody.

I finally got around to watching the cast commentary last night. The Brett bashing was hilarious. :D

Silent Horror was such a fantastic and amusing film. It kinda sucked for me since I never played a Silent Hill, but now I want to really badly. Also, this videogame horror flick makes the Resdient Evil movies suck even more than they already did.

Yeah, I expect more from X-Strike. The RE movies sucked balls.

I just found this thread tonight, because as I've mentioned before, I tend to not check up on this site for months. Anyway, being a self conscious, overly critical actor (is there any other kind?) I always tend to look for these sort of posts, because I really am interested in what people think. And, like Rory, it's the negative stuff I want to see. If I had a dime for every fan who came on and said "this movie rocked!" well, I wouldn't be rich or anything, but you get my point. Not to take away from our fans, they're what keep X-Strike the cult favorite it is, but I'm always more interested in the negative reviews. It's great to hear what worked, but that's more narcissism than anything else. Honestly, I don't like to watch Silent Horror all that much, and not just because I don't like to remember how fat I was in college, but because I know I could have done better. Watching yourself on film is rough because you can't enjoy it the way an uninvolved party can. You nitpick and critique and it's probably just best that actors not watch their own material.

As for the commentary, Ilana's sandwich sure was tasty.

Brett....your avatar, is a picture of you, with a blonde wig...and pigtails!

I'm sorry, I just needed to make that point.

Apprently Brett was a trooper through this movie...until he went insane and chopped the bird in half and almost made Rory throw up xD But I'd have to say him and Tim were my favourite part of the movie, because the acting really was top notch on both their parts. I don't know what you're nitpicking at Brett, I thought you were excellent

Speaking of Rory: You did an excellent job on this movie. The lines that were supposed to be funny, were funny, and the lines that were serious, were serious (Except for ...say when Brett got shot and everyone laughed, which, I did too xD) Some of the lighting problems got really bad at some parts, but also some of them played into the movie really well. I thought the filming was well done, the handling of the camera gig. The monsters were done better than I had expected them to be, despite alot of them were just sheets and curtains, the feel that was given to them was very well. Most of the other stuff you've already mentioned during the commentary, so I don't think there's much more to say. Except that one part that bothered me, when Brett killed Ben, I didn't know Ben was supposed to be David, so that part kinda confused me a bit until later.

I'd have to say my favourite part of the movie though, was that "Oh shit" look on Tim's face when he broke Ben's sword. That, and it looked like Tim really wanted to hurt Stephen in that fight scene with the pipe x.x

Joecam was right, you acted your ass off in the movie, it was awesome.

And for some reason, I just got the typewriter gag. I was watching it last night and when Darrin died and then got transported back, I was like "WTF!"

Now watching the commentary....oh....he saved halfway through the movie xD

Umm... Michelle Phelan, and...uh, that other nurse that attacked Stephen, the one with the black hair were hot...Michelle was a bit hard to hear though, I couldn't catch onto the echo thing, but I more or less got the jist of it.

The keys on the table in the Play menu, with Rich voicing over Gabrielle-moster was pretty funny, a nice little thing to just happen across in the menu.

Stephen: In 3.5 Will O Wisps are CR 6, and all they have is a +16 attack, and do 2d8 lightning damage. Natural invisibility, AC 29, and...immunity to magic (Atleast anything with a spell resistance, except Magic Missle and Maze) I thought they were like CR 1/4 or something xD

And also, if I ever come up to NY (Which, I"m really not that far away) I put you guys in charge of taking me to UNDISCLOSED LOCATION, because that place looked AWESOME...especially at night :D

While I am of the opinion that, on the whole, this is a totally kick-ass film, there are a few gripes I simply need to share:

1. Acting: The female role.. Argh. I guess it works for some scenes in the beginning, but the intonation in her voice just KILLS me every time I hear it. Additionally I think that some of her lines were a bit botched and could have been re-shot.

2. Lighting: While most of it is consistent there are some parts that just... aren't. For example, when they first arrive at Quiet Knoll and go inside the house, there's an overhead light in one shot and then it's gone the next time the camera cuts back to that room. Then it comes back again in the next shot. This really can confuse the viewer.

3. Audio: The music works perfectly in most cases, but some of the sound effects are one-channel tracks and sound really cartoony such as when the pyramidhead-like monster slaps one of the characters.

But aside from all this, the amazingly written script and awesome camerawork more than make up for the above. I just watched it for the 4th time with some friends (all SH fans) and they loved it. I even noticed a Batman reference that I didn't catch the other times

well...the thing with her, is that she's meant to be incredibly B and cheesy. all of your complaints pretty much lead to the success of her role. it may seem like a copout, but go back and play RE1 and listen to jill's speaking lines. the resemblence is uncanny.

and as for that over the top slap...i LOVE that sound whenever it's used in an x-strike production. and i hope to god it never goes away. even if they get a million dollar budget, i demand to hear that slap noise.

I don't think we used that slap sound in anything other than Silent Horror.

And as much as I'd like us to take credit for Sara's excellent B-movie acting, that's how she sounds in real life. She just spoke the lines, and her voice just happened to be perfect, in hindsight, to parody Jill's and scary B-movie actress'.

Heh, actually I never even thought of that. I do see that Jill comparison. I guess it's cause the whole movie I was thinking SH and not RE. But I guess mine is the reaction of anyone who has seen the movie and hasn't played RE1.

i might be thinking of the wrong slap then....remember when Juese slaps David in River City Rumble? or when he slaps him in the hand with the pipe? that's the one i'm thinking of. and it's utterly hilarious.

This is an old thread but I *just* realized where I recognized Gabriel's pendant from.

It comes in the collector's box for the PS1 remake of Lunar 2. Am I the only one geeky enough to realize this?

I just managed to view this, preliminary thoughts were that I didn't enjoy it as much as RCR.

Doing the lighting at night must have been a huge bitch but you guys didn't do too bad of a job at it.

The acting with the 3 main characters was a downer in my eyes. The blond lead guy wasn't bad, but the girl and Simon hurt to listen to dialogue most of the time. It was such a joy when Tim finally had his first scene, it was like "Oh my god, a character with personality!". Darren was also a great character to watch. Perhaps they just had much more fun material to work with.

One thing I noticed was a few times that there were longer pauses than there should have been between lines said during a conversation, disrupting the flow. Also, I didn't understand a word Claire said.

Also I was confused by continuity with snow/no snow.

It was said that the female lead was emulating how a Resident Evil character was. I felt that style of acting was more detrimental towards the total picture and outweighed staying as true to the game as possible. Just my opinion though.

Monsters were good, no complaints with them.
