Hudson thread

Sadly, the man that gave me a free copy of Lost in Shadow announced this week that Hudson West is shutting down all new projects via the Konami buy-out. They'll still exist in Japan technically, but it sounded like for small, social gaming kinda stuff.

Franchises: Bomberman, Adventure Island, Bonk, Mario Party, Bloody Roar
Other notables: Lost in Shadow, Lode Runner, Faxandu, Adventures of Dino Riki, Milon's Secret Castle, Super Star Soldier, Punch Ball Mario Bros. (really)

It's safe to say, I'm playing the best game Hudson has put out in a long long time. Since, for my money, the first Mario Party. My hope is that we get some collections ala what Playmore has done with SNK.

What would you make with Hudson property?

I would pass some characters off to make a fighting game. There were rumors of a Hudson vs fighting game some time back. Bomberman, Higgins and Bonk would all work great in a classy 2D fighter. But that's about all though, so sell it to someone who knows what they're doing.

I played the fuck out of Adventure Island when I was a kid. That game was ridiculously hard for a platformer.

I couldn't even beat it using the Game Genie code for infinite lives. There was one stage that had a jump that was so ridiculously far that I eventually just gave up on it. I think I did eventually beat it in college, but again, only with the Game Genie.

Agreed, that game was one of the most difficult.

When I did beat it as a youngin', it involved leaving it paused overnight so I could finish it the next day.

I really liked Bomberman 64. It was my first Nintendo 64 game.

And I loved Faxanadu, even though I didn't really play it that much when I was a kid. I loved the Overworld theme.

I HATED Faxanadu and LOVED Bloody Roar 1&2. Shame about the closing.

Hudson made Disney's Party. It was okay but tried too hard to NOT be Mario Party. There were some good minigames but a bunch or wretched ones.

I spent about a year in my highschool's band room cursing people out while playing bomberman. Rory and Mahoney know what I'm talking about, those were the days.

I played the living hell out of the first two games. I can still hear the world map music in my head if I think about it.

A fighting game makes the most sense to me, too. It would be good starting point and possible open the door to other ideas. Some of these characters (especially Bomberman) still have loads of potential life left in them. Hopefully we'll see something out of that.
