XSGC - Killer7 - No Holds Barred

Postby Ekkebus on Tue Mar 01, 2011 9:37 pm

Alright everybody, we talked about it, now its time to actually make it happen. We're launching our first every X-strike Game Club and the inaugural game will be the Suda51 classic Killer7, considered by many X-strikers (and many folks on these boards) to be one of the greatest game of all time. I highly recommend playing the Gamecube version if you have the choice. The PS2 version has some extremely annoying load times when you're switching characters. Cube version is definitely the way to go.

So the way this is going to work, we're just going to do one chapter a week. I'm sure we could potentially squeeze two but I'd rather make sure everyone can keep up with how hectic our lives can be. Chapters will need to be finished by Mondays at which point conversation on the previous weeks chapter can commence. Don't be a dick and drop spoilers ahead of time.

Now to kick things off your mission is to complete Angel by Monday, March 7th. Now go forth and have fun. In the name of Harman.

Update 3-7: Angel is open for discussion. Play Sunset Pt1 for 3-14
Update 3-14: Sunset Pt1 open for discussion. Play Sunset Pt2 for 3-21. Also, updated the title to indicate what we're currentely discussing.
Update 3-21: Sunset Pt2 open for discussion. Play Cloudman for 3-28
Update 3-28: Cloudman open for discussion. Play Encounter Pt1 for 4-4
Update 4-4: Encounter Pt1 open for discussion. Player Encounter Pt2 for 4-11
Update 4-13: Encounter Pt2 open for discussion. Play Alter Ego for 4-18
Update 4-19: Alter Ego open for discussion. Play Smile Pt1 for 4-25
Update 4-25: Smile Pt1 open for discussion. Finish this mother for 5-2

You picked a time that is extremely heavy at work for me, but I actually had kept as much of this weekend open as possible so I guess the timing works out for the moment.

I know I could do this myself, but is there a way the club could point links to really good deals on obtaining this game? I think it would help to get people involved in the club that don't have that particular title.

Although in future instances I agree with this idea, currently new copies of K7 generally go for anywhere between $5 and $8. I don't know if you'll find a better deal than that for one of the smartest games ever made.

Gamestop has used copies for $6 if you can find one at a location near you. Amazon is pricier but they do have copies available.

It's going to take me a good while to get used to not aiming with left trigger and not having inverted controls...

I wish I could A) Find the game, and B) be persuaded away from Fallout: New Vegas right now.

I'm kind of surprised people are being downed by the first chapter. I never considered Killer7 to be a difficult game. Is it just too unconventional?

I honestly can't seem to find my copy of Killer 7. I'm actually looking online to stores that have it in stock. I don't want to go across the water to find a GC copy, but I may have to do that.

There's a control inversion toggle in the option menu.

The first level is a stopping point for a lot of people. I remember it knocking out Chad, as well as Rory and Steve I think. Took myself a few tries just to figure out what they wanted me to do, and never had a problem after that.
