Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Still downloading it (Yes, PC version you cockbags), this game has a lot to live up to in my book. At least 12 playthroughs of the original Deus Ex for me, with being just last month.

Of course, anything is better than Deus Ex: Invisible War.

I also picked this up as well. My only complaint is having to listen to the main character. Having a unessarily grissled voicebox is about as Sci-Fi as Matte Black paint on a Ford Taurus (I wonder who'll get the reference). Other than that, I'm really impressed by the game. There's still multiple ways to traverse a mission, to include running and gunning. The hacking mini game is a nice change from burning "multi-tools", and it's taken over for lock picking as well (so, no more lockpicks either).

Characters seem realistic enough that I'm not peering into the depths of the Uncanny-Valley, and I still chuckle a bit when I drag a body from first person view. Looks like a rag doll moving on its own accord. Character interaction seems natural...enough. It's using a wheel system that's very much like ME and DA2.

But, the fact you have choices as to how you get through the game is really good. It's what I liked about the first game, and I'm glad it's making it to the newest one.

Yeah, I totally agree with ya, Wood. The main character's voice is the only negative so far. The combat is so much different from what I'm used to, and a lot more difficult. I've obviously been spoiled by recent shooters....even Mass Effect and Dragon Age. No matter how you augment yourself, you're still completely fuck-up-able. It's actually lots of fun trying to use my brain and sneak, I've never played a Metal Gear or Tom Clancy game before, so this whole 'not blowing the fuck out of everything' is new to me. Even games that I played that HAD the sneak option....fuck, I never did it.
You will NOT beat this game by running around and shooting everything, and I love it. It adds more suspense to the gameplay, and it makes the legwork more important. I'm also loving the shit out of the world they've created. It's so drearily, darkly, depressingly perfect.

Knowing that I'll be at Dragon*Con next weekend and then picking up my preorder of Space Marines right after has me in a bit of a quandary.....stupid great games releasing too close together.
Suffer with me, will you?

After listening to both Giant Bomb and Gamespot rave about this game being real good on their respective podcasts this week and most of my close friends being obsessed with the original, I reckon i'm probably going to buy this today. Fuck it, it's a Bank Holiday weekend so I have monday off, most of my friends are at a music festival in the rain and mud all weekend so i'm pretty much on my own this weekend. As for space marine, I may wait till the (5 player?) Co-op is patched in before getting it. Just cause I have too many games to play as it is. And maybe we could do an x-striker co-op run.
Sorry if i have bad grammar and spelling, blame touchscreen phones...

First playthrough complete at 6 hours. And hoooooly shit, what a ride that was.

Plain and simple, this is the next Deus Ex game that us fans of the original first iteration have been waiting so long for.

So much choice has been slathered over this game. Multiple ways to tackle any objective, be it outright blasting away (With the right augments), sneaking and stealthing your way around your enemies and taking them down with some CQC, or hacking and smooth talking your way though everything.

I know I missed quite a lot of side areas/quests, some of those places I could not reach with my first augment "loadout", but I will be gladly going through this game multiple times.

Control is quite tight, sneaking and moving around pretty intuitive, the classic Deus Ex 1 inventory and ammo system makes a polished return, and there is quite a large selections of augmentations you can choose from.

Can't help but feel a sense of "Metal Gear Solid" while playing this. In a totally good way.

Nope, 6 hours. That's what Steam told me for my total platytime.

Oh wow, that's a lot shorter than I had expected. Nothing wrong with the length, especially with that kind of replay value that I'm sure this game has but I actually chose not to rent it this weekend because I assumed I wouldn't have enough time to see it through. Guess I was wrong.

Now keep in mind, I have a tendency to just plow through a game on my first playthrough. (Example being 8 hours on my first bomb through Fallout: New Vegas), and And I know I missed at least two whole lengthy sidequests, and "fucked up" on a couple of missions in a rush. I'd say it'd be more of a good 15 to 20 hours for a regular first playthrough.

I dunno if the 360 or PS3 version has this, but starting at 2200 GMT today, the game has been displaying cryptic messages at the bottom of the main menu. Here are two that have shown up:

okM8-+Ds4Dui?lMh$Mzvm14SBqe7;G.l6=u74b?mkh-45Ki6Od+98XBpCku7

5 - /!f/fq/xc/qy/d3/?x/t$/j#

Looks like we've got ourselves another Alternate Reality Game (ARG)

Still, 6 hours? That's.....fucking silly.
I'm at 11-12 hours (not counting constant deaths, which would have me around 20) and I'm still in fucking China. This game is fantastic, I'm really enjoying my choices and the only 'naughty' thing I 'm doing this playthrough is punching civilians in the face if they cock off to me.
Once I beat it on good guy, I'mma shoot everything with large caliber weapons on the second runthrough.
Also, I found the Forever Alone meme....so, yeah. At least one designer reads memebase.
