PS Vita, I have one.

I got a Vita in this weekend, and I got some things to say about it, when I'm not dead tired from my shift. I will say the hardware is amazing, but Sony made some weird decisions on the software side. It's safe to say that this is not meant for a deployed environment.

Despite my love of the PSP, I have NO interest in the Vita at all. I haven't seen a single game or feature that makes me want to go run out and buy it.

Well, I'm excited for the games coming out on there. Granted, it's mostly ported fighting games, which I don't have issues with. There's also yet another version of Ninja Gaiden (Sigma+) coming out. But one of the major issues I'm running into is that it doesn't play the PSOne games right now. It does play a few PSP games, however I can't copy it over from my PC to the Vita. Instead, I'm having to download the games though the Vita itself. It's not the worst thing, but when internet access is at a premium, it's an issue. I tried leave my Vita on in my room to download my PSP games, but the system decides to go to a standby mode, even when plugged into the wall. Which means it cuts off the network access as well. So basically, unless I babysit my Vita the entire time during a download, I can't download anything. With speeds up to 44Kbs, it's a damn long time to sit with that thing, when my only game on there is Little Deviants. That game is just a collection of mini games using all of the alternate controls on the Vita. Namely both touchpads, the gyroscopic controls, the camera and mic. It's really easy to get bored with that. I do have Rayman Origins on the way, which I'm genuinely excited for.

I do have to say, the controls are nice, and the screen is absolutely gorgeous. I have a feeling that the games coming out for it will look really good and close to the PS3 in terms of graphics. The system has a lot of potential, and it's super nice. However, it's hamstrung by Sony's proprietary memory cards, it's unwillingness to play nice with a PC, and having the Vita store not match up with what's on PSN, to include PSOne games and a few PSP games. I really want to see what Tactics Ogre looks on this screen, but I gotta wait until I get back, or I take the downtime to babysit my Vita through the download.

Ok, I now have a sizable enough library to truly judge the Vita on. Rayman Origins, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend, and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom look great on this console. UMvC3 may have some lower resolution textures, but it's barely noticeable, and would make sense on a 5 in. screen. Ninja Gaiden Sigma+ looks and controls pretty alright on the system. It also has lower resolution textures, but also runs at less than 60fps, though it's understandable as a port of PS3 game on a portable system.

Also got quite a few PSP games on there right now as well. The Vita has a better color range, which makes some of the games look a little better, and the screen no longer ghosts (something I HATED about the PSP). I have Corpse Party, Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions, Guilty Gear Accent Core+, Persona 3 Portable, Tactics Ogre and the first Prinny. So far, this system is really starting to grow on me. Granted, it could be me trying to justify how much I've already dropped on this system.

I played with my sister's Vita and I will admit that it looks fantastic and seems like a great peice of hardware. I think my problem is that my portable gaming has signficantly decreased in the past few years due to my android. If I am out and about I would rather browse the web or read a book than lug around a gaming device. Perhaps when the price point gets super low and there is a great library I will think about getting one 8)

I've seen a couple of people update their Facebooks with one. They appear to be enjoying it. I have no interest in one at the moment myself.
