Journey

Postby Jakanden on Tue Mar 06, 2012 11:22 pm

So Journey finally came out today and it is pretty well deserving of the hype (assuming you like Jenova Chen). Much like Flow and Flower, it is a very slow paced game with a great atmosphere, gorgeous graphics and a relaxing soundtrack. The entire purpose of the game is to wander around and explore these amazing levels.

Once you meet someone else in the world (another random player) it gets even better as you work together to get through the areas. There is no voice chat, text chat or anyway to communicate with the other people, you just kind of follow each other and explore. There is also nothing keeping you together so you can feel free to go your separate ways at any time.

So far I am really digging this game and I highly recommend it to anyone with a PS3. It starts off slow, but gets going pretty quickly. I can already see this being in my top games of the year list.

Seriously? I'd imagine you did a decent amount of exploring as well considering that's what I think the game is entirely about(I haven't watched any vids on it, and still don't entirely know what this game is). I mean good games can come in short packages either way, I'm just surprised to hear that given it was in development since 2009. I do like exploring and seeing the expansive vistas and ruins, so I'll buy this when I get my PS3 regardless. Ya know, when The Last Guardian comes out. It's coming out. Seriously, it's going to happen. Right guys?

I didn't do an exhaustive amount of exploration but I poked around. I imagine the idea is that the length will lend itself to multiple playthroughs, encouraging players to go back and experience the game again with different companions.

That actually does sound like something that I would have a lot of fun with.

I ended up starting a new playthrough last night and right after the tutorial area I sit down at the first mural and it immediately punted me forward to that tall cylindrical room right before you start climbing the mountain. At first I thought it was just going to have me play through the areas in a different order but I went straight up the room, up the mountain and on to the end in about a half hour. Does checking that mural always trigger that or is it something that changes every playthrough or both?

That is the chapter select area. Each Mural is a level and whichever one you sit down in front of is the level you go to.
