Demon's Souls certainly doesn't need a sequel in terms of story but I would love another take on its game design.

Hey, my replacement strategy guide showed up today. They used a completely different paper stock for the new cover. Feels good, looks good. Mad props to Atlus for actually running this replacement program. I can't think many companies would have done it.

Fucking fuck Black Fantom Satsuke! During Halloween, the WT is pure black. So, after having issues in 1-2, I decide to go to 4-1 to farm some skeletons and pick up a crescent weapon +1. Right at the entrance is BP Satsuke, and he wants me dead...again. I've now gotten a rythem down where I can do some backstabbing with a +3 winged spear, and shields are necessary for this fight, since that Hiltless stuns the shit out of him on shield strikes (See Ninja vs Spartan). But, as soon as he's low enough, he heads towards a silver skeleton I don't want aggro, heals to FUCKING FULL, and then tells me to "Come at me bro!".

I may just start a new game, and this time kill the tutorial demon. That way I can Falcon Punched by the Dragon god.

I do have to say, the world and the story are really good. You definitely get a feel for how desolate the world feels. The nexus feels like the only sanctuary left against the demons, and the last few people with souls intact are either hidin, trying to fight, or complete dicks. The world is very dark, and everything can and will try to kill you. There's some huge set pieces in this game as well, and the game feels huge. That said, it can get frustrating in a hurry. Apparently magic is the way to go if you want to win easily. I don't like that as I like playing a more melee style. I really do like using spears/shield in this game. I do wonder how the mechanics changed from this to Dark Souls.

Yeah the Pure Black WT fucked me last halloween. That is why I logged in to my primary character (level 220-ish) a couple of weeks ago since all worlds were Pure White.

Trying to do anything in Pure Black is a huge pain in the ass. It really does make a big difference and I can guarentee things will get easier after today when things shift back to normal.

My first character had no offensive magic, just a few spells for support and defense. My main weapon was a high level long bow though so fighting at range was still my bread and butter. Other than that I did use a greatshield in conjunction with the Winged Spear though. Winged Spear is great.

The combat mechanics of Dark Souls are pretty much identical to Demon's Souls. The only big difference I can think of is that magic works off of spell charges in Dark Souls instead of having a mana bar. There's also a lot more variety in weapon attacks in Dark Souls though.

So I go readdicted to this and after the WT getting reset , I was able to make progress again on my main character. The problem was that it had been a long time since I played this character so aside from that one part I was like "...what the fuck am I still missing". Luckily, the archstones tell you everything you need to know so I realized which bosses I was missing. Now I just have to kill the False King and the final boss and I will be done with this return to Demon's Souls (for now).

One thing is that it amazes me that I still know all the enemy placement and level layouts so I was able to breeze through pretty quickly. I normally can only remember general things about games I go back to such as "I think there is a boss somewhere around here". However, with Demon's Souls I was like "Hey there is a ninja down this hall and up 2 floors".

News broke today that Atlus is finally shutting down the servers on May 31st. I think it's great that they were able to keep the online portion going for so long but I'm sad to see it finally go. That game will not be the same experience without the bloodstains, messages and ghosts all running around the world with me. Naturally they'll be running World Tendency events the entire month of May. Lately I've been thinking a lot about a second run through Dark Souls but now I feel tempted to give Demon's Souls one last go in it's intended form.

That's a great shame. I'm glad I got to experience a decent amount of the game while it was still online round your house Tim, it's sucks that when I eventually do get a ps3 of my own and get the game, the online feature will be gone.
Still, at least I got to play it a bit :)

Additional : Apparently the PAL servers don't have a shutoff date as we got the game about a year after you did I believe.
Also Atlus US said you should all be online on the shutoff day, 31st May
Sorry if i have bad grammar and spelling, blame touchscreen phones...

It's gonna be really weird when you come back to it without the bloodstains and messages. It'll be fun to explore again after all that stuff is gone, I think.

heh, so apparently there's been some changes to the circumstances that are allowing Atlus to keep the servers going for the foreseeable future.

ENB has started his Demon Days series and once again, is providing awesome insight into the lore and mechanics.

I will be starting this up today. Not sure if I want to go faith build or pure melee. I will figure it out soon enough though 8)
