Rez, I cut a bunch of your post that I felt some people might not want to read. I'm making a spoiler thread. We can talk about shit there.

The quiet moments you share with your crew (namely Garris, Liara, and every Fucking second I spend with Tali) in the face of utter extinction are some of the best written and acted scenes in any video game I've ever played.

Why was first reaction to Tim starting a spoiler thread to GO INTO THE SPOILER THREAD.

I read somewhere that Bioware is considering creating an alternate ending. I have no idea what the story is, let alone what the ending is. But from a purely outside view, it would be terrible to change whatever artistic vision they were going for. Hopefully it'll be paid DLC. If they're going to cave in on what they thought would be an appropriate end, they should get paid for it.

From what I understand it is more an epilogue than modifying the existing ending.

That's consistent with my understanding. Outright changing the ending would be craziness but if they need to release some kind of epilogue or other supplemental material to make people stop whining, I'm fine with that. Mostly fine anyway. I can't wait to hear people bitch if/when it comes out as a paid DLC.

From Bioware's front page:

"The latest DLC for Mass Effect 3 will be titled 'The Apology', and will chronicle the events occuring six months after Commander Shepard's campaign to take back the Earth. Fans will enjoy an unprecedented level of choice in their gameplay as they program their own epic sci-fi series. Marketed with the tag-line "So, you think you can do better?" The Apology invites butthurt, self-entitled players to try their damndest to create a more compelling ending to the Mass Effect saga. Project leader Kasey Hudson says "that should please every whiny crybaby troll on the internet who thinks they know how WE should end OUR story. We thought this would be the only fair way to say how sorry we are for the 100+ hours of amazing action, humor, and epic gameplay that we provided prior to the ending of Mass Effect 3. We did not anticipate that this bold and challenging ending would vaporize all the gameplay experiences that players enjoyed up to that point. Scientifically speaking, its unprecedented to see an entire series retconned out of existence by nerd rage."

The Apology is scheduled to release on April 1st, priced at 1600 MSP."

Oh yeah, the face patch. Yep, my old Shepard now comes over just fine. My stand-in Shepard definitely wasn't as close as I thought he was but he did the job ok.

I've actually been playing the multiplayer with some regularity lately. With an average match time of about 20 minutes, it's really easy to hop in for a round or two before I play something else or if I just want to shoot things with my friends for a little bit. The rewards system has it's ups and downs. Unlocking everything via randomized booster packs is fun because you never know what you're going to get but it also kinda sucks...because you never know what you're going to get. It's not a big deal, but it can be kind of frustrating seeing people using characters or weapons that I have no means of acquiring other than random luck. The main fun for me though is just being able to try out a ton of different classes with a bunch of different powers, some of which don't even show up in single player. And so far Bioware has done a good job of supporting it with new maps, characters and weapons for free, seemingly content to let people spend money to buy booster packs in order to fill their coffers. I have to think at some point they're going to want to think about adding some new enemy hordes as the rotation of Cerberus/Reaper/Geth is going to get old at some point.

It's frustrating that I still cannot play this game just yet. However, now the reviews coming out now about this game changed from "Making Mulitplayer affect the readiness rating in Single Player is stupid" to "Man, this Multiplayer is really fun!"

Now I really want to play this game, because the "Get a bunch of friends and kill bad guys" has been my favorite type of multiplayer game, and it's starting to sound like this game delivers that pretty well. Love to see how an infiltrator plays there, with a long range rifle and balls of fire. I need to come home to this soon.

These two statements are not mutually exclusive.
